My DVR is an entertainment melting pot, bubbling with network comedies, scripted dramas, and everyone’s favorite guilty pleasure, reality television shows.
I’ve become especially fond of the series, “Married At First Sight.” The premise is six singles, three men and three women, are paired together by relationship, spiritual, and sociology experts. These new couples will then meet for the first time at the altar…when they become husband and wife. After six weeks, the couples have to then decide if they will stay together or get a divorce.
So, bigger than a blind date. A blind marriage.
Needless to say, such an arrangement takes the couples on an accelerated and often bumpy course of navigating communication and reconciling expectations. At the end, some do stay together. And some, unfortunately, choose to part ways. In all, it is fascinating to see how relationships fare when choice is taken out of the equation and only intangible qualities are considered.
If your family, friends, and spiritual mentors could choose your spouse, would you be open to a blind or arranged marriage?______________________________________________________________
